When the close of business on Friday 20th December comes, many businesses break up for their Christmas break and be away for the business till January (apart from retailers who are in full swing and probably pulling their hair out).
Their thoughts turn to Christmas, the presents they haven’t yet purchased and what they will be doing during their break. I doubt that many will be thinking about work or their social media strategy between their break up and their return to work date.
This is also when many people have more free time so they spend more time on social media. Now this might not be all business related but a proportion will be and if your competitors are not sending messages, your messages will reach more people compared to theirs.
So my main message is for you to make sure you have messages scheduled to go out on your social media platforms until you get back to work on the 2nd, 7th or 14th January!
Think about it, people are at home looking at their phones and browsing Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Surely you want your messages to reach them?
Luckily with scheduling software like Buffer, Hootsuite and the many others on the market, you can do this with little to no cost if you have the time.
Here are a few things to do before you break up for your Christmas Break:
Take a picture or a video with your team shouting Merry Christmas (another for Happy New Year)
Make sure you have messages scheduled until you arrive back at work
Write down any marketing ideas from this year that you saw other people doing (you will forget if you don’t write them down)
It’s also a great time to post about the community projects as this relates to your business but aren’t selling posts. At this time of year, this strategy works well as people are more community focused.
Also, use this time to share other people’s posts. Look at your suppliers and customers social media feeds and work out which messages your audience would like to read. Make sure everything you share will provide value to your audience.
